A tour on the history of disease and medicine, to learn about the daily life of Londoners in the past centuries, struggling with illnesses, epidemics, poor hygiene and malnutrition, cared for by empirical methods in crowded hospitals. From the Black Death to Victorian diseases, from the bodysnatchers to the anatomy schools, this walk will show you some relevant sites, including: a cemetery of the plague, the oldest city hospital, the guild of barbers and surgeons, and that of the apothecaries.
In specific days and times, the tour can be extended with a visit to the oldest operating theatre in Europe and / or a medical museum of anatomy.
